Cameron & the Pig’s Head
The year after our Salmond Tab debacle, we knew the nation’s (if not the world’s!) press would be interested to see how Bonfire celebrations progressed and especially who would be depicted in the Societies’ tableaux.
No news stories seemed particularly exciting; the World Cup was being played amid some back-hander controversy; David Cameron was in Number 10 and saying ugly things about refugees and Jeremy Clarkson punched a producer.
Cameron seemed the juiciest of this low hanging fruit and boy oh boy, did he deliver!
While we were building a fairly sombre interpretation of Cameron’s description of refugees (Dave on a Cornish beach, holding back the swarm, King Canute style, and blasting them with a giant canister of bug spray), news broke that our esteemed PM may have had a saucy encounter with a pig’s head during an initiation ceremony for the Piers Gaveston Society back in his uni days.
What was that? A pig’s head? Wowser! This was too good a story to ignore. So, with a bit of judicious surgery and some last minute porcine sculpting, Dave eschewed Sam, his wife and regular holiday companion, in favour of Piggy and thus Hameron hit the streets of Lewes to cheers and jeers while the press squealed with delight.
We were back!
